Nick Vujicic

Have you ever heard of the man named Nick Vujicic? Yes! Good. No! Well read on, this article will be discussing the man who has broken all barriers, despite all odds.

Nick’s Early Life

Nick James Vujicic was born on the 4th of December, 1982. He is an Australian, was born in Melbourne, Australia without arms and legs. At his birth, his mother refused to see or hold him. One can only imagine the thoughts that ran through her mind at the sight of her son. However, she and her husband had to accept fate and concluded that it was “God’s plan for their son.

Originally, at his birth toes on the feet, he calls “chicken drumstick” were fused together, an operation was conducted to separate them. This was done so he could use the toes as fingers for grabbing and doing other necessary things.

In one of his motivational talks, he explained how growing and attending school was so hard because of his deformity. He suffered depression because he was continually teased and wondered if he had any purpose of life, following his bouts of depression he attempted suicide. Which obviously failed, because he is alive today.

Growing into a teenager and then an adult wasn’t easy, as he bullied all the time, however, Nick notes that he had to make up his mind to ignore and he survived.

His motivational talks started at age 17 when his mother showed him a newspaper article of a man who was severely deformed. He started giving talks at his prayer group, most of his talks are motivation and centers on his life and challenges.

At age 21, Nick graduated from college with a Bachelor of Commerce degree and a double major in accountancy and financial planning.

Life Without Limbs

Imagine having to go through life without arms and legs. It’s unimaginable, anyway, “life without limbs” is an international non-profit organization founded by Nick to serve as a beacon of hope and light to everyone. The mission statement of this organization is “our mission is to cross boundaries and break down barriers, to build bridges that bring people to the love and hope of Christ”. Nick disability has in no way stopped him from being the best he can be, in fact, he used his story to get close to children, teens, and adults especially those that are going through one major challenge or the other.

Using his disability and his authentic love for Christ, he brings hope to everyone who comes across him.

Attitude Is Altitude

Nick Vujicic also owns a secular motivational company known as Attitude is Altitude. What better way to get motivated than to listen to a man who turned his disabilities around to something more beautiful and amazing. Over the years Nick moved from country to country motivating people and preaching the gospel of Christ. He has been to churches, schools, prisons, recreational centers etc. He has also granted interviews and talk centers on Attitude. Nick propagates that one’s attitude determines one’s success. What is your attitude to life, people around you, your circumstances? Using himself as a case study, Nick continuously preaches that his growth today had to do with the decisions he made years back to be optimistic and joyful, regardless of his condition.

Hence, the Attitude is Altitude organization, which he uses as a platform to spread the message of encouragement and inspiration.

Personal Life

Nick Vujicic is a married man and father. It’s probably a shock to so many people that someone with his disabilities could get married and to a beautiful woman like that.

During an interview, he granted alongside his wife, Nick confessed that he always had the doubts of getting married, he never thought anyone would consider spending the rest of her life with him. He said he looked around, and people have arms and legs, and some of them are single, so he didn’t see any reason why a person with complete limbs will be with him.

As God will have it, Nick Kanae Miyahara in 2008, according to her, his smile drew her to him. She mentioned that her husband might be missing his limbs but his personality makes up for it.

 Lessons From Nick Vujicic

Personally, I have learned a lot from this amazing man. Let’s start with happiness.

  • Be happy; Nick has proven that happiness and sadness is a choice. How can a man with such disability be so happy with life? Yet, people with complete limbs rarely find joy in anything. Life is too short, be happy.
  • There are no excuses; you are in charge of your life, you are in charge of turning your pain to joy, your disabilities to abilities, your can’t to cans. You are in charge. Nick has shown that man has no excuse to be mediocre and ordinary. A man without limbs that drives swims, skydives, plays golf, surfs and so many other activities that will definitely make able-bodied men cover their faces in shame. What is your excuse for being where you are?
  • Spread joy; if you listen to motivational talks or interviews Nick grants you will realize that there is no dull moment with him. He is so full of life and energy, constantly making jokes even at his expense. Such a vibe attracts people and that’s why there are always smiling faces in a room that Nick is room is in.

In conclusion, the life of Nick is an exemplary one and one worthy of emulation. If you’ve not heard about him, I hope this article gives you an insight into such a wonderful being.
