Looking around, I know it might seem like some people are just meant to win every single time. And this is the point where you will get some people perceiving success as a God-given gift. Well, that’s not entirely true. The truth actually is that most of these successful people have just one thing in common; their positive attitude.
“Attitude is a little thing that makes a big difference.” – Winston Churchill
Every day of my life I have come to appreciate the impact that attitude could have on our lives. Attitude surpasses everything else, and it can actually either break or make your life. However, besides all that, we have a chance to choose the attitude we would like to embrace day in day out. Your attitude will greatly impact your performance as well as your overall wellbeing.
In most instances, we cannot do anything about the past and how people around us act among other inevitable things. All in all, we have a chance to play on the one string that we have; our attitude. Life actually happens to be 90% of how we react to it and just 10% of what happens to us. This means that we have total control of our lives as we are in charge of own attitudes.
The Best Ways Of Improving Your Attitude
A positive attitude goes a long way into influencing your overall success rate. That is because your attitude determines your overall performance and well-being. In that case, if you are trying to establish that success mindset, here are some of the tips that will help you achieve the right attitude in life.
Realizing what motivates you in life is one of the greatest steps that you need to take in order to bring change to your world. Some of the basic motives you could have include; anger, love, financial gain, self-preservation and maybe fear.
Therefore, by discovering your motives, you are able to tap on to your self-motivation. Hence, this will give you enthusiasm, a positive outlook on things, and in the end, you will be able to believe in yourself.
We all agree that one of the loudest and most influential voices in our lives is our own inner voice. Also known as our own self-critic. While it is a good thing, it could also work against you depending on the message you allow. This means that your own self-critic could either cheer you up or wear you down.
However, if you learn how to self-coach yourself through affirmations, things could get a little more interesting. These affirmations are a great way of reprogramming your subconscious with positive thinking.
Affirmations feature words that contain a strong message of faith, power, and conviction. This means that when you send a positive message to your subconscious, it will accept whatever you tell it then gives you a positive response. Self-coaching through affirmations has proven to be one of the best ways to drive a positive attitude.
3. There Is Power In Visualizations
Maintaining focus in very challenging situations is never a walk in the park. That is why visualizations and affirmation are what keeps you going in such instances. This helps you to either consciously or unconsciously remain focused.
The power of visualization is something that Nelson Mandela has written about very extensively. He shares his story on how visualization is what helped him to take up a positive attitude when he was behind bars for 27 years.
Mandela focused his mind on thinking about the one day when he will be able to walk free again. The fact that he kept fantasizing about it, helped him to improve his attitude towards life.
4. Spend Time With The Right And Amazing People
As much as most people will try to deny this, the people you let around you will reflect upon how you conduct your life and your overall character. Therefore, if you want to improve your attitude for the best, then you need to check the people you surround yourself with.
This means that you need to make sure that the people in your life always share some positive vibes with you instead of bringing you down. After all, we are only human and at times we can be at our lowest points. This makes it even more crucial to have positive-minded people around you who can inspire and support you.
5. Forgive The Limitations Of Other People
As I mentioned above, we are after all human. And as much as we all desire to have high standards and relate with people equally, it’s important that we appreciate the fact that we are human.
Therefore, you need to understand that not everyone will be perfect and exactly as you wish. This means that you don’t need to make yourself miserable just because other people could not reach the standards you desire.
Everyone is uniquely flawed and that is what makes everyone special in their own way. Learn how to accept other people’s flaws and unique desires.
6. Say Thank Or Please More Often
Being polite is not a hard thing. It’s as easy as saying ‘please’ or ‘thank you’ when receiving help or when asking for it. These are some of the phrases you need to use often especially when relating to the people closest to you. It’s not their duty to give you the help you need. But because they care for you, they are willing to help even at their own expense.
“The joy I get from winning a major championship doesn’t even compare to the feeling I get when a kid writes a letter saying: ‘Thank you so much. You have changed my life’.” – Tiger Woods
So you should learn to say thank you after every helping hand you are given. When you are nice to the people who give you a helping hand, you will find that you will get more than you bargained for. And in a good way of course.
7. Always Expect The Best In Every Situation
At a young age, I learned to always expect the worst from people or from any plan that I had. That helped me plan for my failures or for people disappointing me. It actually affected my attitude in life.
We all tend to focus more on what would go wrong instead of focusing on what would go right. It seems complaining is becoming more like second nature in life for most people. Try to stop complaining in life and instead replace all your negative thoughts with positive energy. You will thank me later!
As we have seen from the article above, having a positive attitude will change your perspective towards life. Life is not perfect and there are a million and one things to complain about. However, how we handle the whole situation is what matters the most.
