Elegant Meghan Markle

Meghan Markle has become a great inspiration for women all around the world. She rocked the world when she married Prince Harry, that’s true, but people have come to love her for what she stands for and for everything she has accomplished on her own.

Meghan Markle wasn’t completely unknown to the public, after all, the Suits star was the most googled actress of 2016. However, there are some very interesting things about her that are not common knowledge.

This multifaceted woman never ceases to amaze and today we will be taking a look at 8 interesting facts about her that you may not know!

1. She Got Into TV At An Early Age

It may surprise you to know that Meghan Markle’s father worked as an Emmy award-winning lighting director and he would bring her on the set of “Married… with Children” and every day after school, Meghan was right there with him!

She claims that the experience contrasted greatly with her education because she attended the private, all-girls Immaculate Heart High School in LA, and “Married… with Children” is by no means a holy representation of marriage.

2. Meghan Is Not Her Real Name

Her real name is actually Rachel; Rachel Meghan Markle. If you’re a Suits fan, then you know that her character in the series, Rachel Zane, was her vehicle into stardom. More than that, Meghan has claimed that she relates to her character quite a bit!

In an interview with Marie Claire in 2013, Meghan stated that she shares many traits with her on-screen persona, such as their ambition, their drive and their courage to always take the bull by its horns.

She also added that she loved the fact that her character is much more than a pretty face and that she enjoys the intelligence that’s written into the character. Meghan Markle has come a long way from auditioning for “hot girl” roles, and she takes pride in her accomplishments.

3. She Is Related To William Churchill And William Shakespeare

Shocking, but true! When she submitted her DNA to MyHeritage.com, she discovered that she’s William Shakespeare’s fifth cousin 13 times removed and William Churchill’s sixth cousin five times removed. She’s related to William Churchill via Zachariah Howe, who was born in Essex County, Massachusetts, in 1640. How great is that?!

4. She Used To Be A Freelance Calligrapher

Long before she became “Meghan, Duchess of Sussex”, Meghan Markle worked as a freelance calligrapher! In fact, she used to teach calligraphy, book-binding and gift-wrapping at the Paper Source store in Beverly Hills.

She helped others celebrate their big day and she created exquisite wedding invitations to make ends meet while she was struggling as an actress. She actually wrote wedding invitations for celebrities such as Robin Thicke and Paula Patton.

Her calligraphy gifts began in a Catholic school where she took handwriting classes. She claims she has always had a propensity for writing in cursive pretty well, which made it possible for her to develop this underrated skill.

5. She Was A “Deal Or No Deal” Model

For those of you who are not familiar with it, “Deal or No Deal” is a TV game show and Meghan Markle was one of the briefcase girls. This was one of the many odd jobs she worked as a struggling actress.

She disliked the experience quite a bit. In an Esquire interview in 2013, she said that her briefcase number on the episode was 26 and no one would choose it. Her experience on the game show is summed up to standing for hours on end in uncomfortable five-inch heels, waiting for someone to pick her number so she could finally sit down.

6. She Was Married Once Before

The Royal Wedding wasn’t Meghan Markle’s first time saying “I do”. In 2011, she married Trevor Engelson, a film producer who worked in the film “Remember Me” where Meghan played a small role.

The marriage didn’t last long and they got divorced only two years after the nuptials. It seems that her moving to Canada to shoot “Suits” took a toll on their relationship because Trevor felt like an outsider in her life. This is not uncommon in show business! It’s difficult to balance both work and our personal life, but for people who work in the spotlight, it is ten times harder.

7. She Worked For U.S. Embassy In Argentina

Even though Meghan Markle always wanted to become an actress, there was a time where she considered getting into politics as well. In fact, she was a double major at Northwestern University in theater and international studies.

So, in her junior year, she applied for an internship at the U.S. Embassy and she found herself in Argentina a while later. She worked there for a few months, in her 20s, in the middle of Argentina’s economic devaluation.

8. She’s A Foodie

This is one of the many things Meghan Markle has in common with her Suits character. In fact, her character is a foodie because the writers were aware of Meghan’s obsession with fine food.

Meghan claims she’s always on the lookout for new restaurants and new recipes. She loves to cook and she claims to be quite the professional! She says she can whip up a delicious snack with next to nothing. Being a California girl, she grew up experiencing farm-to-table dining and she believes there’s value in enjoying food and embracing where it comes from.

As you can see, there’s a lot more to Meghan Markle than meets the eye! A feminist, philanthropist, former actress, and blogger, a foodie, an incredible cook and a proud mixed-race woman, among other things.

Meghan Markle is an inspiration for women all around the world. She stood on her own feet and she made a life she was proud of, long before joining the Royal Family. This goes to show that even if we belong to different walks of life, the key to success is being able to push forward and be your own person.
