All of us want to be successful in life, but what can we do to enhance our chances of it happening? What is a success in life? Here are 7 important lessons on how to be more successful in your life:
1. Do Something You Truly Love
No one wants to be doing a job they hate, yet some of us do just that so we can pay our bills and other expenses. But if you truly want to be successful, then you have to find something you love and somehow get a job or create a career for yourself in that area. Even if you must work a regular job you don’t love, try to at least begin a hobby or perhaps find a way to create your own business and become an entrepreneur while you work your way out of the job you don’t like. The bottom line is it is just impossible to be a success in life if you hate your job, so do something you truly love. Start today, don’t wait!
“In order to succeed, we must first believe that we can.” – Nikos Kazantzakis
2. Take Your Job Seriously As Possible
And once you find that job or career you love, be sure to take the whole thing very seriously. You need to always pay attention to details and not take your talent, money or support or whatever keeps you going, for granted. Never slack off. Sure, you can take a rest for a short while perhaps so you won’t burn out, but don’t just think things will keep going if you aren’t serious about what you are doing or trying to accomplish. To be successful, you MUST be serious. Please remember this!
“I never did anything worth doing by accident, nor did any of my inventions come indirectly through accident, except the phonograph. No, when I have fully decided that a result is worth getting, I go about it, and make trial after trial, until it comes.” – Thomas Edison
3. Failure Doesn’t Mean You’ll Never Be A Success
Just about every famous person from Walt Disney to Babe Ruth actually had a few failures in their careers prior to becoming a huge success. Ruth said that every strike he hit brought him closer to hitting a home run, and he ended up setting a record in the number of home runs! Disney is known for Mickey Mouse, lots of other cartoons and Disney World theme parks, was fired from a job and told he had no imagination! Even Edison failed multiple times when creating the lightbulb and look at how that turned into a success! Failure doesn’t mean the end of the world; it just means keep on trying and believing in yourself.
“Failure is a great teacher, and I think when you make mistakes and you recover from them and you treat them as valuable learning experiences, then you’ve got something to share.” – Steve Harvey
4. You Must Believe In Yourself To Be Successful
Another valuable lesson is that you must believe in yourself if you expect to be a success. If you don’t believe in yourself then no one else is going to believe in you either. For example, three famous people: Carol Burnett, Lucille Ball, and Elvis Presley were all told they had zero talent. Yet the first two went on to become famous comedians and actresses, and Elvis, of course, went on to become a famous singer known all over the world. Can you imagine a world without their music and humor? To be a success, you MUST believe in yourself and never let others tell you that you are worthless or can’t do something.
“If you believe in yourself and have dedication and pride – and never quit, you’ll be a winner. The price of victory is high but so are the rewards.” – Bear Bryant
5. Learn From The Past To Be Successful
It seems that most people tend to put their focus on their future, but they must realize that their past helps to shape whatever future that’s going to exist. You have to take what has happened to you in the past and use those experiences to build your future. We are what we are due to the things that happen to us now and in the past. Everyone makes a few mistakes, and hopefully, they learn from them and it makes them a better and more successful person in the future. So, don’t try to block out your past if you think it is bad or brag about it because it was good. Instead, just reflect on your past whatever it was and use those experiences to help your future be successful in all you do.
“Life can only be understood backwards, but it must be lived forwards.” – Søren Kierkegaard
6. Education Is Vital And Comes In Many Forms To Help You Succeed
All through a person’s life, there are many opportunities to learn things, some from school and some from living through something. To be a success you have to invest in a well-rounded education in both book learning and common sense everyday learning. No one should just strive to get a degree just so they have that piece of paper to wave around and brag about. Get it because you truly love that topic or truly need it to advance in your career. Never turn down the chance to learn about something no matter how trivial, remember that the one answer to a supposedly trivial question you learned could one day make you a millionaire. Education is the key to becoming successful. All kinds of education.
An investment in knowledge pays the best interest. – Benjamin Franklin
7. Remember, Money Isn’t Everything When It Comes To Being A Success
Another factor when it comes to being a success is financial aspects. However, money isn’t the only thing that shows a person is a success in life. Just because something pays more doesn’t mean it’s better. You have to go for what is important to you in life, and that could be something other than money. For instance, love. Love can indeed make a person a success. Think of Mother Teresa, the famous nun. She likely had little or no money her whole life and whatever she got went to the church or to help others, yet no one can say she wasn’t a success in life, as she helped millions of people.
All in all, success means different things to different people, and these seven lessons show you how to enhance your life so you too can become a success. Good luck!
“When one lives attached to money, pride or power, it is impossible to be truly happy.” – Pope Francis
